Welcome Mat Quilt
With left over HSTs from another quilt project, I made a Welcome Mat Quilt.
The floor in my quilt room gets chilly in the fall and winter. Wilbur sits by the door and watches the gopher that comes right to the door to taunt him, while the squirrels are busy eating the birdseed that has fallen from the feeders. I thought he needed a little welcome mat to keep his kitty toes warm.
The little mat is 20 inches x 28 inches. I did simple quilting, diagonal lines along the seams. All of the fabrics used are from my stash, and Hobbs 80/20 was used for batting. While I really didn’t begin to make this thinking it would end up on the floor by the door, it fits perfectly.
Wilbur was a bit skeptical at first, not wanting to step on this new thing in his territory, but he soon came around.
This little Welcome Mat Quilt is a purrfect match, don’t you think?
Going Silent
In my last I Like Thursdays post, I mentioned that I am working my way through the book, The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. This is a new experience for me, and I’m definitely being stretched by this book.
Part of this week’s exercise is to go through a reading deprivation. No reading, movies, emails or social media.
So as I sign off on this post, I will be silent for the remainder of the week starting tomorrow morning. I’ll be back again next Sunday evening. This will be a difficult week for me, I think. I enjoy reading your blog posts (and responding to them), and books (especially before bed), and watching shows. I’ll miss writing posts here, too. Without being able to do any of that, I may have the cleanest house on the planet by next Sunday . . . at least I can sew! Cheer me on when you think of me, my friends!
See you next Sunday!

OMG are you serious you are not going to talk to me all week!! Withdrawls are starting already, haha. I hope Wilbur appreciates your kindness;) That was a great way to use some spare parts. I hope you sew up a storm this week!

No blogging would be too much of a stretch for me. I wonder the goal of such an exercise.

I love your little mat for Wilbur – pretty and functional! I’m glad he’s warming up to it! You’ll be missed this week, Wendy – I’ll be interested to learn about what you’re learning. Have a great week!

Good luck with your challenge – looks like a worthy endeavour. Very cute quilt too.

Good luck with your upcoming week! It makes me laugh how animals are so eager to step on/rest on what we don’t want them to, and then the thing we want them to step/sleep on is like it is made of shards of glass. I love the mat and it is perfect and I am sure Wilbur will grow to love it!

Wishing you a peaceful week of quiet contemplation as you sew, clean, cuddle Wilbur and maybe take in a few walks or other outdoor activities.

Aw, Wilbur is so cute on his welcome mat! I’d love to give more little quilts to Angel, but she tends to pee on anything on the floor 🙁 Good luck with your media fast. I’ll be interested to hear about that when you return! Meanwhile, no need to reply to this comment at all.

Good luck Wendy!

Your mat is very nice…and I can tell Wilbur loves it. Can’t wait to hear about your experience being “unplugged”.

I worked my way through the Artists Way several years ago. It’s a good process. I’ll hear from you when you are back. Good luck with it.

The welcome mat is just that – very welcoming. I will come over happily and may never leave. And since you are in a silent mode you won’t be able to shoo me away 😀
We will all be right here waiting for you when you return from your silent retreat. Enjoy the unplugging.
