What a Week It’s Been
What a week it’s been here at Pieceful Thoughts. Thankfully things are quieting down a bit, so I’m joining in with the To Do Tuesday linky party over at Texas Quilt Gal. I don’t have much to show for the past couple of weeks, but I’m hoping this next week should be better!
After my last post, Tundra, our daughter’s dog, came to stay with us for a long weekend. Our daughter went to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) with friends. She had a great time; however, while hiking she took a nasty fall and injured both feet. One foot is in a boot, the other is very tender but okay. X-rays indicated no breaks or fractures in either foot; however, she is seeing an orthopedic doctor soon for another look. She can walk, with the boot and crutches. If that weren’t enough, they also had a very persistent bear in their camp. Needless to say, it was an eventful and memorable weekend! So we are still helping out with Tundra, taking him on walks, etc. as well as helping her navigate around her apartment, etc.
A day later, our son called at the end of the day to say he was heading to ER. He ended up in the hospital for two days, so we were stopping in to see him and waiting to hear his diagnosis. Thankfully, no surgery was needed, and he is home and doing well. We were grateful he could be in our local hospital, which is 5 minutes from our home.
Today (Monday) was the first day in a very long time that I saw the inside of my quilt room. Here’s my to do list from my last post:
- Maybe start on cutting the Firm Foundation blocks – Nope
- Write Blog Hop post – Done
- Sew Day with friends! – So much fun!
- Finish the batik project – Done
If you didn’t see my little finish for the Queen of Gadgets Blog Hop, here it is. Made from some orphan HSTs, it was a quick finish and right on time for fall decor.
The batik project was another fun, fast finish. It was one of those squirrel projects, where I just had to drop everything and make it (next time I’ll remember to post it for Sandra’s linky party though)!
My sew day with friends was so much fun. We chattered and sewed and laughed. A good day. I can’t even show you what I was working on, since I’m going to use it for the upcoming Gremlins, Goblins & Ghouls Blog Hop.
I’m looking forward to sharing my project with you, but until then, mum’s the word . . .
I jumped in on another blog hop too – have you seen this one? There’s still time to sign up if you are interested.
If you would like more information about this fun Hop, click on this link. It should be a rockin’ Hop and grand fun!
Despite our family’s craziness this past week, we did have some fun. On Saturday, we attended a wedding. The top photo is one of the table centerpieces, made by the bride. So pretty!
Well, now that I’ve brought you up to speed on what’s happening here, let’s see what’s (hopefully) going to happen in my quilt room this week:
- Cut Firm Foundation Blocks – priority this week
- Endeavourers Challenge Quilt
Those are my two main goals for this week. Of course, I have other things cooking, too, but both of these are priorities. We’ll see how I do.
What a week it’s been – and what a week it will be – quiltwise, I hope! Happy stitching, all!
Wendy

Quilting is in my Blood
Oh my goodness, how hard it had to have been to have both your kids having health issues this past week. I hope your daughter heals quickly and that your son also feels better. As far as your fall table runners with the cute pumpkin on top, I just love them both. I can’t wait to see your post on the Gremlins, Goblins, and Ghouls blog hop. Hope next week is less adventurous!

Wow…worrisome when loved ones are sick or injured. Hope the healing continues. Time in the sewing room is good medicine for you.

Glad that things are going in the right direction!

Goodness Wendy! I hope your daughter mends quickly. That bear sounds pretty scary, that would send me home immediately. Wow on your son – glad he is home now. Our daughter texted us from the ER last week – she had high BP and some worrisome symptoms but came home that night. Our kids will always be our kids, right? That runner is beautiful. I think batiks make the prettiest fall goodies.
Thank you for joining us at To Do Tuesday!

My goodness, Wendy, I hope this week will be quieter and your son and daughter will continue to do well. I’m amazed you managed to get any sewing done at all!
Karen
sounds like your daughter had an experience she will not want to repeat – she much have had a couple strong people along to help her out of the wilderness and back home – and then your son on top of that – what a week
Tracie
Hopefully both kiddos continue to heal well! I hope you have a fun day in your sewing room. This cool weather is conducive to all things quilting!

It’s hard when the grown-up kids have health issues! So glad they are close so you can help them out. I bet you’re glad to breathe a bit and sew this week. Looking forward to seeing your blog hop entries – you always come up with good ones!

Oh goodness, what a week, indeed! I’m so glad that your daughter has an appointment to learn more about her feet and that your son was able to get the help he needed and not have surgery. Fingers crossed everyone is on the mend there!!

When it rains it pours!! So sorry your daughter and son had these problems. So good of you and your husband to take care of the dog. It sounds like the time sewing with your friends was just the medicine you needed…laughter and companionship. Both are a comfort. I’m looking forward to your upcoming blog hops.

What a BW trip! Praying everyone is recovered asap.

Goodness! Sometimes we just breathe in, breathe out, then do the next thing that’s required of us. Aren’t you so grateful that you’re available to help.
Cindy Berry
Wendy, sorry to hear about your children – hope both are over their issues soon – glad you are nearby to visit and help. Hope this week is better. Stay safe.
Laura
It is a wonderful thing that you are available to help your kids when they need it! I hope you have an uneventful week (I mean that in the best way!).
My daughter in law and myself were supposed to travel together to visit my daughter today. She is home with Covid and I am flying alone. It is so dissappointing! Her flight is rescheduled, and hopefully she can join us later!
Sandra Walker
Well I am glad that you at least got to attend a wedding to lift the spirits. I am also glad that both of your kids are okay as far as you know. I hope that your daughter’s second opinion agrees with the first. Glad you have some fun hops to fuel the creativity!
Kathleen McCormick
What a time you have had! Hope everyone is really on the mend. Totally get what Molly is going through. Glad you to get to the wedding and have some fun. Good luck getting to your quilting room! I joined the music hop…thinking about halloween but I am so slow to do anything with PT these days…we shall see.

Yikes — not a fun week. Great to hear your kids are doing better. Hopefully all will be back to 100% soon. Seeing your pumpkins remind me that I have one I should take out soon. We aren’t seeing fall colors yet but soon, no doubt. Take care and have a great weekend of quilting.
The Morning Latte
Glad Molly’s getting a more professional opinion but hoping for nothing serious–keep me posted! Certainly the week ahead will be much more calm?! You’re awfully ambitious there with the blog hops (I think one every year or two is plenty for me! LOL). We’ll all be anxiously awaiting your creations!

Thanks for including the wedding centerpiece it is lovely. Happy sewing you have a busy schedule for the week.

Not the kind of exciting weeks any of us hope for. Glad that everyone is mostly OK. Love all your fall themed projects. Good luck with your to do list this week.

Going along with all the nice and kind words of the other ladies here. If things like that happen, I sit down late before going to bed .. and take a good (german) Schnaps.. if I would be in your kitchen, would take a good Whiskey! …and yes breath in and out …. you did a great job this week!! And I think it is not over and will cover your next week as well. But we all know – we take the power out of our handwork with sewing. stay strong

Oh my, two adult children with health issues and a dog to watch also. What an eventful week. I like that wedding centerpiece. My daughter did something similar for her own wedding though candles were not allowed in the historic venue. I am glad you were able to get back to your sewing. I love that table runner.

Oh my gosh, Wendy! I am so sorry. I hope that your daughter and your son put these health concerns behind them. Of course, I am sure that you will stand by them like a rock, helping them with whatever they need and I wish you lots of love and strength as you do just that. Big Squishy Hugs and Healing Vibes.
