What’s Up Wednesday

I thought I’d share a What’s Up Wednesday post to show that I still know how to write blog posts (they’ve been pretty hit and miss) and to share a little of what I am working on here at Pieceful Thoughts. The weather is warming up (slowly!!) here in Minnesota, and now that I can hear once again, I have been having fun getting out and having coffee with friends and doing other things I haven’t been able to comfortably do for a long time. I haven’t been in my quilt room much, and I have two projects I need to finish ASAP. One needs to be finished in a week, the other by May 1st. We have a vacation coming up in a week and we’ll be gone for the last bit of April, so I really should be sewing! Anyhoo – let me show you what I have gotten accomplished.

After making one oven mitt as a test run, I made a pair for a bridal shower gift. They were tucked into the gift box along with a pie plate. They were very fun to make, and the bride-to-be was happy to receive them. I hope she has many years of happy cooking and baking with them! I had the fabric in my stash, waiting for just the right project, so it was fun to use the cute print.

On our trip, we’ll be staying with friends, and I want to bring a gift to thank them for opening their home to us. I debated about what to make. I considered bowl cozies, zippered pouch, market bags (for shopping), and a tablerunner. I was leaning toward the market bags, but then I saw this Atkinson Designs tablerunner pattern and decided to give it a try.

This is a “keeping it real” photo, showing the mess that my studio is in at the moment. Anyway, I decided to go with some soft spring colors that will hopefully work with her decor. The runner pattern from Atkinson Designs is called Rocky Mountain Runner. If you are looking for a pattern to use up scrappy strips, this is a perfect one for that. The runner measures 15″ x 45″. It needs to be quilted and bound, and I think I can get that done before next week.

My other project is my art quilt for The Endeavourers, and the challenge theme – circus – has really had me puzzled as to what to make. I now have a plan, and part of the quilt has come together, but there is quite a bit that is left. I’m a little worried I’m not going to get it finished, but I have some time yet, so we will see. No peeks for you, so you’ll have to wait until the reveal on May 1st.

Some of you have been asking how Wilbs is doing. He’s been up to his usual antics and has been very helpful in the quilt room from time to time. Tundra, our daughter’s dog, came for a visit last week. He had to hang with me one evening and he gets very bored and just lounges on the couch. Wilbs had to sneak over to check out the dog smells.

He thought maybe he could sneak up and sniff, but Tundra was onto him. They actually tolerate each other pretty well, although Wilbs is not above letting Tundra know when he is too close and personal!

So that’s my What’s Up Wednesday here at Pieceful Thoughts. Things have been pretty low key in the quilt room, but I’ve been enjoying a few little projects here and there.

Happy quilting!

Wendy

When I saw your message pop up in my email, I was thinking it had been a while. Sounds like you’ve been busy. Those oven mits are very cute, and I like your table runner. Great picture of Wilbur and the dog.

Thanks for sharing your projects and preoccupation with the circus theme quilt. I am sure it will all come together beautifully. Glad to read that you have been out and about with friends. Enjoy your holiday!

The table runner will enjoy your friends you can stay. The colours are perfect and will do a good job.
The oven mittens will do a good job in a kitchen of „just married“ couple. The fabric is vibrant.
So nice to see cat and dog respecting each other. Love how Tundra looks at Wilbs. Have a good time!

There’s a reason there are so many cat vs dog videos that show up in scrolling feeds. They’re just so funny! Don’t you know that Tundra is asking hopefully if they’re friends now and that Wilbs is rolling his eyes then looking away with a “please….” Although he’ll nap very close, although just out of reach.

Super cute mitts and table runner, Wendy!!! Do you have a marble counter in your new studio?

  • Kate

The oven mitts did work out well. You’ve got a good start on the table runner. Good luck with all that you are trying to get done in the next few weeks.

That is the cutest print on the oven mitts. I immediately thought of a pear galette.
When you make a post they always make me smile. Have a wonderful trip, and I’m sure your table runner will be cherished by your friend. Enjoy all the sounds of travel.

Those oven mitts are so cute, Wendy – what a great gift! I love the tablerunner, too. I clicked over to look at Atkinson’s website, and realized that I have that runner pattern. Now I’m thinking I’d better dig it out and make one! So glad you’re getting out to do fun things and have a trip coming up soon. Enjoy!

Such good news about you get out and about again! Your oven mitts are perfect and that tablerunner will be a great hostess gift. Have a great trip! Oh, and good luck with your endeavor’s project…circus would have me stumped!

The table runner looks great and I am sure your friend is going to be delighted with the thoughtful gift. Circus would be a challenging prompt for sure; I’m glad you have an idea. Have fun finishing up your quilts and have a wonderful trip!

Love the oven mitts – with a pie pan, a perfect shower gift. And the table runner looks great. I’ve made my share of Atkinson Designs’ runners over the years.

It’s been a dreary first third of April here, and we are all just wanting some sunshine and heat. Love the oven mitts; I have some of that fabric. I won a little stack from Michelle at From Bolt to Beauty a while back. I do believe I made that runner some time ago for a shower gift for my friend’s daughter.
