Union Square Quilt Block

Today is my day to show you my Union Square Quilt Block, a free block pattern from The Fat Quarter Shop. A classic, vintage block, it goes together so easily and makes a beautiful quilt.

This is the fabric I will be using for my blocks, Jo Morton’s Hickory Lane. It is beautiful fabric with its dark, earthly colors. I’m thinking this will be a lovely quilt for fall.

My Finished Block

The block pattern is free from The Fat Quarter Shop. The construction of the block is very simple and basic. It goes together quickly.

The instructions are well done, making those points match up nicely.

If classic and vintage aren’t your style, this block could easily transition to something fun in modern fabrics. It would make a bold statement in solids, could be a sweet quilt done in soft pastels for a baby quilt, or how about a patriotic theme for a 4th of July quilt, with all those bursting star blocks?

The Fat Quarter Shop offers a kit for this pattern, as well as a backing kit in bright, summery fabrics by Betsy Chutchian, so if you’d rather just kit up and sew, they can help you with that!

I’ll keep you posted on my block progress as I make the blocks for this quilt, so come back and visit, or follow my blog.

Adventure awaits . . .

For the next week or so, I’ll be away from my computer and spending some time with BigJ. I may not be posting on my blog, but you’ll hear from me on my Instagram @piecefulwendy

Enjoy your weekend, friends! Will you be quilting? I’d love to hear about it!

Wendy
