I have a Friday finish to show you today, my Nativity quilt is finally finished. Actually it’s been done for a few weeks, but I’ve been dragging my feet on getting the photos done. Okay, true confessions, I’ve been dragging my feet just getting this quilt finished, for no reason other than I got distracted by new projects. This top was sewn in 2023!! Time flies! This Nativity quilt is made up of blocks from Sandra Healy Designs. I tested all of these blocks for Sandra, and had the foresight to use the same background fabric in all but two of the blocks. However, the two with different backgrounds are very difficult to find, the two Grunge fabrics are so close in color. Sandra also came up with the design layout, so I can’t take credit for that either.
The two stars were the first two blocks I made, if I remember correctly. They are also the two with the difference background fabric.
The center square is a scrap of Christmas fabric with words like “peace”, “joy”, etc. I don’t recall the designer, it’s an older line. You can see the quilting Connie added to the star and the background, too. Here’s a little peek of more quilting by the angels.
Some fun stars and shooting stars fill out the background of the Nativity quilt. Mary and Joseph got a little more detail, with faces, looking serene and peaceful. Even the creche got some woodgrain detail.
More of those background stars by the shepherd, and adding a little wooly detail to the sheep. I had so much fun choosing fabrics for these blocks from my scraps, like finding the “wood” for the shepherd’s cane.
Of course, the cow had to get in on the photos, too, with his own quilting detail!
Can you see his little curl on his forehead? Makes me grin each time I see it, and he has some nice hay to lay on, too!
The donkey got a little curl, too, and also a nice bed of hay.
To finish the quilt, I used this cotton snowflake fabric. I thought it was a good choice for the backing. I chose the Grunge fabric for the binding.

I’m pretty pleased that I have a Christmas quilt finished in September. I’m ahead of the game for once, even if I’m a few years late!

This is just lovely Wendy. I love nativities of all kinds, and this is precious. I have a paper-pieced pattern…a small quilt of a nativity. You know I hate paper-piecing, but I’m kind of inspired to get it out now. I love all the details in yours.

Oh, look at that! It’s beautiful, Wendy! I remember you making these blocks, and thought each one was neat. Together they are spectacular! I bet Sandra is so happy you created this quilt out of her blocks. Hooray for a finish!

The snowflake print is great for the backing of the quilt and I love all the quilted details that are in this one. Congratulations on the finish; will you hang it for display or use it as a throw for this holiday season?

Oh Wendy, this is just so beautiful and meaningful! I do love that the motifs are done separately. I think this gives the quilt so much meaning, showing all the parts that were involved in that glorious event. You’ve done a great job with the quilting and the selection of colors. The patterns are great also! So glad you shared this and the detail in making it. I just love it!!

What a great quilt! I love all the details that Connie added and all the great fabrics. She has the quilting move so nicely through the quilt and the little details are awesome. I always love grunge and this background is just perfect.
