I have a couple of new projects to show you today, and an update on an older project as well. Here in the US, we enjoyed a long holiday, Labor Day, so I hope it was an enjoyable weekend for those of you here in the US. We had a busy weekend with a family wedding on Saturday. My nephew’s daughter got married, and we enjoyed celebrating the day with the happy couple.
Despite the heat and humidity, I pulled out some of my fall quilts. I haven’t gotten them up yet, but I did take a little time for two new projects and whipped up two little mini mini quilts for my kitchen.

These two little leaf quilts are 6 inches square. Both were made from scraps, even the binding. Once sewn, I added some fusible fleece to the back of the blocks, then added the backing and did a quick stitch in the ditch for the quilting. Pretty simple. These two hang in my kitchen above my sink.

I have quite a few of these little 6-inch quilts and I change them out now and then. Some are seasonal, some not. If you are wondering how I hang them, you can read about my less than fancy hangers in this post. I enjoyed making these little blocks, and I like the new look in the kitchen for the fall season.
That done, I pulled out this block that I tested for Sandra Healy last fall and added a 2″ border.

I’m going to finish this as a mini quilt for my daughter, and we thought the addition of a border would be nice. I’m still thinking about how to quilt it. The top is now 28-1/2 inches square. You can read more about this Autumn Pumpkin block and get the link to Sandra’s pattern shop in this post.
With those new projects done, I decided that since new projects seem to be the theme, it was time to begin a quilt I’ve been itching to start for the last few months. I’ve been telling myself I had to finish this and that first, but finally gave myself permission to just start. This will be a medallion quilt. I’ll tell you more about the pattern and my fabric choices in future post. For now, here is the center medallion.

This center medallion measures 18-1/2 inches. It’s going to be a large quilt! I cannot wait to show you my progress on this new project!
Last but not least, I can’t end the post without a photo of Wilbs. He was being exceptionally photogenic in this shot, don’t you think?

Handsome fella, isn’t he? All these new projects didn’t really interest him as much as settling in for a nap in the sunshine.
Anyway, here are my new projects for the week:
- Quilt the Autumn Pumpkin mini quilt
- Keep working on the medallion quilt
- Hang fall quilts
- Another Summer Solstice block?
How about you? Any new projects happening in your sewing room?
Wendy

I love the leaf quilts! Looks like you have a pretty view from your kitchen window. I see Wilbs had to demonstrate how the new mini quilts coordinated so purrfectly with his fur. He really is a handsome fella. Your simple way to hang those seasonal blocks is pretty smart. 😉
I enjoy reading your Blog and seeing all the projects you’re working on. You get quite a bit accomplished! Wilbs is adorable!
The new blocks are just perfect for your kitchen, how fun to have seasonal minis to hang there. Hey there Wilbs, looking sharp as ever;) Working on another panel wall hanging here.
Your 6 inch maple leaf quilts are really pretty, Wendy, and I love where you hung them! Do you change those out for the seasons? Fun crow and pumpkin, and perfect for your daughter, too. I love the center for your new quilt! I made one of those blocks (in 6 inch size!) for a recent quilt and it has become a favorite block.
Love these projects. The 6″ blocks are great and love the hanger…so fun that you made up one that works just for you. Sandra’s block is gorgeous. And, that medallion center reminds me of one Sandra Walker just did, but I think a little different. Looking forward to its reveal!
The new fall minis in your kitchen look wonderful and I bet we’ll all be enjoying cooler temperatures before we know it. Turning the block you tested into a mini for your daughter looks like it’s going to be a fun project, and the medallion quilt is off to a gorgeous start!
Wilbs is certainly a handsome boy! We have his twin here, as part of the little family of feral kitties that have adopted us. Your kitchen display is a great idea! Maybe if we all keep working on fall projects we’ll get fall temperatures arriving.
Why yes Wendy, i was wondering how you hung the little bitty quilt squares! (I missed that somehow.) I was guessing a Command product, but I love your “necessity is the mother of invention” invention. And yes, a 6’6″ man would be so handy around the house!
Those little mini quilts are quite nice. I love that striped border. They look great next to the sign. That crow is quite the guy and I’m sure you’re daughter will really enjoy having him in her home for fall. Is that a dark green on the medallion star? And as for Wilbs, I love the way the light glows around his ears and he looks so seriously at the camera.
no new quilts but working on a new round of a BOM
Wilbs! Okay I will try and focus on other things in the post and not just your cuteness!
Those apple blocks are fantastic and I love leaf mini quilts.
Okay back to staring at Wilbs…
Delightful to see your fall blocks and other new work. It is such a clever id a to have seasonal quilts on display.
And, yes, Wilber is a very handsome fella
I like the way you switch out your quilts with the seasons and I love the mini quilt you are making for your daughter. Wilbs is looking as handsome as always 🙂
Your leaf blocks look perfect up there. Yes, that’s a great pic of Wilbs!
Your mini leaf quilts are really cute. They make a nice addition to your kitchen decor. Wilbs is definitely a very handsome fellow. He has such pretty eyes. Enjoy stitching on your new project. It’s always so fun to start something new. I’ve designed a new scrappy project I really want to start, but I have to finish the current one first!
Wilbs is looking straight into the soul! So deep! Ok, concentrate on your work.
This will be a wonderfull quilt or wall hanger for your daughter. And I completly understand the ok to start something new even other projects are cooking.
We all need more pots cooking on the oven. I cant concentrate on only one project as well. So, it will be very interesting to see this big medaillon quilt.
Thanks for sharing! My new project to think is an english paper piece project. I have first to take out my colour pens and look on a piece of paper how it could work. A little planning must be even I am caotical no planner. And it is medaillon style from the center to outside as well. Happy week!
I did look at how you hang the little quilts. I’m thinking that it also helps to have someone over 5 (or over 6) feet tall to help hang them!
