We did a little day tripping this week, so I thought I’d take a break from my usual quilting posts to show you a few photos. We’ve had a little break from the usual work week, so we took a day and visited some old and new places. One new place we visited was the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN. It is a little hidden gem, but worth visiting.
The style of the building is reminiscent of a Maine cottage. Our weather has been so dry and hot, the flowers were struggling a bit, but it was pretty nonetheless. While there, we viewed an exhibit of Native American art. We were encouraged to view the art with 3D glasses, so I thought I’d share this goofy photo of the two of us.
Yes, he really is that much taller than I am, and yes, it makes taking selfies a bit of a challenge. With the glasses on, viewing the art like those you can see behind us, made the colors look a bit psychedelic, so we got a good chuckle out of that.
A few days later, Dad and Daughter went day tripping a little longer, taking an overnight camping trip. The purpose of this trip was to get our daughter’s dog, Tundra, used to riding in a canoe. After a little wariness on his part, he took to it pretty well.
He’s going to go on his first BWCA trip soon, so a practice run put both Tundra and my daughter at ease. Of course, a full day of paddling, playing in the water, and exploring the campsite makes a tired pup.
See that look on his face? Tundra loves the tent, and loves curling up in his sleeping bag, so he is insisting that it is time to get in the tent. Yes, he could go in on his own, but he really would prefer company. Hahaha. Don’t feel too sorry for him, he usually gets his way!
Meanwhile, Wilbs and I were in the quilt room a little bit. While out day tripping, we stopped at a quilt shop, and I found backing fabric for the Oh Granny quilt, so I got that pieced and ready. I also pulled out another UFO, did some ripping and rearranging the top, and got the backing prepped for that quilt as well. More on these in a later post.
And no, I do not have neat and tidy backs on my quilt tops. If that bothers you, just look away. Haha.
Wilbs loves the sun, and our kitchen window is one of his favorite spots. Some days, though, it’s just too much effort to get up on that sill, so he collapses close by.
And yes, when he does that, I do check to make sure he is breathing! He doesn’t get to go along day tripping, but just the thought of it wears him out. Of course, having Tundra come for a visit wears him out, too!
Apart from day tripping, have I been sewing? Yes! I’ve been testing a block for Sandra Healy, and it’s a cute one! I can’t wait to show it to you soon. I’ve also started a new project, so I’ll share a bit more about that soon, too. We have a long weekend ahead of us, and it’s also the Defeat of Jesse James Days here, so I’m ready to hang out in my sewing room and enjoy some quiet sewing time. I’m itching to keep working on my new project, and see what other trouble I can get into!

That photo of you and your Hubs – what a hoot! Tundra is adorable, and so is Wilbs in his exhaustion. 😉 The celebrations during Jesse James week sound like fun.
Day trips are a lot of fun. Looks like Tundra did pretty well at getting his canoe and tent legs all sorted out. Congrats on all the progress with moving quilts to finished. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve been playing with in the sewing room.

What a great adventure to have to acclimate Tundra to canoe travel! Your husband had some special bonding time and you had special Quilty time at home. I’d call that a win!
Looks like you have had some really enjoyable day tripping experiences. And my quilt backs almost always look just like yours – I will trim stray threads if it’s a white background on one of my negative space quilts I plan to enter in a show. But that’s pretty much the only time I take the time to trim them up.
That looks like like a neat museum to visit, and love the 3D glasses selfie! We did that at one of the Smithsonian museums in D.C. when we were there. Tundra looks quite relaxed in the canoe! Getting a backing made for a quilt can be a big job – glad you’re moving forward on that one. The backs of my quilts are never perfectly de-threaded either!

It seems like you have been having lots of fun. When you get a chance to get out of the house and have some fun (with 3=D glasses) no less, make the most of the opportunity. Always great to hear about Wilbs and Tundra. Love the photo of Tundra…you summarized his expression perfectly. A cat nap in the sunshine is always wonderful. Can’t wait to see the quilts done up and the new project.

Methinks Wilbs has it much easier, tho I expect Tundra wouldn’t trade places. Glad you managed to get out and about for some fun! Crazy (in this heat!) to think soon it’ll be too cold!

Tundra – impatient to get snuggling in the tent – adorable! Looks like some awesome adventures and glad while your hubby was on his adventures, Wilbs was busy helping you in the quilt room! I manage NOT to look away at that quilt top back 😉

What a fun little outing! Love the NE style cottage style building, but it is at least one story higher than most. The pic of you and John is so much fun. Tundra is adorable; Percy moved up our bed time as he got older, and we still go early as he trained us well.
