I’m excited to show you Sandra Healy’s latest design, the Autumn Pumpkin Block. I recently tested this block for Sandra, and it is one of her best yet! When the fall season rolls in, the crows in our backyard make their presence known. I enjoy hearing them caw in the mornings, and have named one of them Harry and pretend that he knows his name. So when I saw a crow as part of this quilt block, I was all in.
Sandra’s patterns are well done. It’s best to do the cutting all at once, labeling the pieces as they are cut. Once that is done, the instructions for piecing are well explained. Sandra also includes helpful diagrams along the way.
The Autumn Pumpkin block is 24 inches unfinished. It is part of her Seasons collection. She released the Spring pattern earlier this year (which I haven’t made yet, but it’s on my list). You can see my version of her Summer pattern here. Although these patterns are part of a collection, they can easily be used as stand alone quilts, too. They would make cute wall hangings to change up with the seasons, or stitched together as a large quilt.
The patterns are also well suited to scrappy sewing. All of the fabrics in my block were from my stash, and most of them were scraps. Along with the crow, I love the addition of the mushrooms!

I think this is my favorite of Sandra’s designs that you have made! The pumpkin is so pretty, and I love the crow and the mushrooms. Does Harry caw for treats? Do you feed your crows?

That’s an awesome block – I especially love the crow! Have you read the book Crow Talk? If not, I highly recommend it. I think crows do have language and might even understand us! 😊 I’m going to go check that out on Sandra’s site.
