I recently stitched up a Sunflowers quilt block as a pattern test for Sandra Healy Designs. If you’ve followed me for awhile, you may recall that I have tested several patterns for Sandra. One of my favorite tests is in this post (and I’m happy to say that both of those pillows now reside at the same home)!
The Sunflowers pattern test was a little different than the usual block tests I’ve done in the past for Sandra. The larger of past blocks have been 12 inches finished. This block finishes at 24 inches, so it was quite fun to stitch up.
I kept my color choices similar to Sandra’s, using scraps from my stash. A few changes in color choices, and this would be very cute block for fall, spring, or even the 4th of July. Both the water pitcher colors and the colors of the flowers could be changed to match the season, your decor, or just for fun. Sandra’s patterns are clear and easy to follow. Once the fabrics are chosen and the cutting is done, the block goes together quite quickly.
This large block would be cute finished up as a mini quilt. or even as a set of four in seasonal colors. I think it would look nice as a mini quilt on a front door to welcome guests as they come for a visit, or as a mini quilt on a wall in your home. Here’s a photo of the block up on my design wall, so you can see how nice it looks from a distance (and surrounded by some of my other finished and unfinished projects).

It’s a lovely design and is beautifully stitched together. You say it comes together quickly, but to me it looks like there’s a lot of piecing

That is so pretty, Wendy! The size of this would definitely suggest a wall-hanging, finished as is or with a border. Sandra has some beautiful patterns!

Wonderful sunflower rendition. I’m noticing your large design wall. Do you have a set of instructions for making it? I finally have a wall to build it on.
My mom loves sunflowers. This might be a nice surprise for her as a lap robe.

I love sunflowers – I am waiting for my real ones to bloom. It has been cooler than the norm so they are taking a bit longer. Very cute block!
