I have a favorite finish to share with you today. Signal Trace is a quilt pattern designed by Quilting Jetgirl, which Yvonne released in 2023, and she just finished her second quilt of that design. I finished my Signal Trace quilt top in March of 2024 and you can read about it in here.. I had just dropped off my Signal Trace with Connie for quilting when I saw Yvonne’s latest post, so it’s fun to be able to share my finally finished quilt with you today.
This quilt is a favorite finish because I enjoyed working with the pattern and I loved the fabrics, Storyboard by Seth Apter. The orange and gold contrasting fabrics Moda Grunge. Honestly, the most difficult part of this quilt is the photographs.
The finished quilt measures 48″ x 48″. Since the quilt top is so busy, we kept the quilting simple. Connie used an edge to edge design that looks a bit like a chain link fence. The quilt makes both of us think of traffic in a construction zone. There has been a lot of road construction in Minnesota this summer, so maybe we were just seeing orange everywhere. My daughter, on the other hand, says the quilt reminds her of looking out a rain-drenched window and all the street scenes are blurred. I think I like that version better – who wants to be reminded of road construction? Haha.
The photo above shows the overall quilting design as well as the backing and binding fabric, which are both part of the Storyboard line. In the orange squares, Connie added a little starburst to highlight them.
Those photos show the true colors in the quilt, as well as another view of the quilting. Wilbs thought it was the perfect place for a snooze while I was stitching down the binding. He coordinates quite well with the quilt, don’t you think?

This quilt is just wonderful. I like your daughter’s interpretation of looking out of rain drenched windows. And those starbursts on the orange squares are awesome!
I love that fabric line and didn’t allow myself to have any of it. The fabric choice and the pattern work so well together. It reminds me of a satellite view of neighborhoods and the orange diamonds might be the fall trees in blazing color.
Wendy, I love your quilt! The fabrics are great, and M’s interpretation is accurate. There’s a watercolor dream vibe. Wilbur must have sensed it too and knew that a nap was appropriate. What a fun finish!
I think Seth Apter would approve of your choice of pattern for this print. It’s really nice and approved by WILBS too.
That’s a beautiful finish, Wendy! I think the main fabric is fascinating – would love to look at it in person. At first I thought it was crumb blocks that you had pieced together out of little scraps. The orange fabrics make a beautiful contrast with it!

I really like the colors of your quilt. I think your daughter hit the nail on the head with her description. Of course Wilbs fits right in with the quilt. Interesting how he can curl up so tight and hide his head so well. The quilting design is perfect and I love the stars in the center of the gold squares.
I suppose it could be that one is looking out of a rain-drenched coffee shop window at the traffic AND construction? LOL. No, no, let’s go with the orange being all the car lights whizzing by!? It’s really beautiful though and so very artsy! Somewhere in my memory is a painting that is similar….can’t quite pull where/what though. (aging brain!) Well, no matter. It’s a stunning finish!

I am so glad to see this again and fun that you and Yvonne coordinated your finishes – intentionally or not. The fabrics in this are so pretty and Connie always does a lovely job with the quilting. I really love the orange spark, and dear Wilbur wrapped up in the quilt!

I think your daughter’s description is spot on! What a pretty quilt – I love those Storyboard fabrics, and those orange squares with the starburst are perfect. Lol on Wilbs – it must have been cold that day!
I love it! It reminds me of looking at the layers of reflections in plate glass windows in a city center, with little sparks of sunlight making it through all the towers. The sunburst in the orange diamonds is a great detail.
I love this quilt. Those story board fabrics are amazing and the orange is a stunning complement to them 🙂

I love that we got our Signal Trace quilts finished so close together. Wilbs looks perfect cuddled up with it, and I can see both of the descriptions for this quilt (construction and rain streaked windows)! Congratulations on your finish; do you have plans for keeping or gifting it?
