Confetti is the name I’ve given this quilt, made from Jen Kingwell’s Wandering Wife (formerly Gypsy Wife) quilt pattern. I don’t like either of those pattern names, so I’ve chosen to call my quilt Confetti, because it reminds me of a party with confetti being thrown in a very joyous setting. Truly, there’s a lot to celebrate today, since it has taken me far too long to get this quilted and bound, but here it is!
Our weather has been overcast lately, so trying to get a good photo was tricky. The blocks were all made from my scraps, and I think there are even some orphan blocks in there. The background strips are low volume prints. (The natural light makes some of the low volume strips look yellow, but they really are white.) The finished size of the quilt is 59″ x 86″.
Connie quilted loopy swirls over the quilt top, which just adds to the fun idea of confetti being thrown. She used an edge to edge design and it works well with all the busy blocks in the quilt top.
One reason it took me so long to get this quilt to the finish line was the quilt back. I could not settle on what to use. I wanted to keep the low volume prints for other quilts, so I wasn’t considering them. In the end, I finally gave in and used them. I don’t know why I didn’t just do that in the first place!
I have a box of binding scraps, so I pulled those out and used them to bind this quilt, using only the scraps that worked with the bright colors in the quilt blocks. It was fun to use up some of the bindings, and I think it works well.
Would I make another version of this quilt? Yes, I would. It was a bit of a puzzle, but now that I’ve done it (and made copious notes) I think a second would go much faster. So this pattern will be kept for another burst of inspiration some day.

Wendy I love this one. What a great way to use up some of your orphan blocks. Makes me want to do any test blocks in coordinating colors and then make this quilt every year or two with the orphan blocks. How did I not notice the website update. I love it, the heading in perfect!
Oh I love this quilt! I am so fond of those background fabrics – work so well with the pretty, bright colors. Connie is an amazing quilter. You did good! Will it stay at your house and become a quilt for your most important family member (Wilbs)?
I like the name you gave it, it suits it, but I wish they had left the original name of that pattern alone. There was such silliness associated with changing it from Gypsy Wife. The same thing happened with the Gypsy Rose quilt pattern from Villa Rosa. What a waste of my time – lol! 😀
That’s the perfect name for this quilt, Wendy! It really does look like confetti blowing around. I’ve heard that Jen Kingwell patterns take a bit of puzzling out, but you did it and with a beautiful result, too!

I love both the quilt and the name. Those bright colors scattered across the low volume background just make me smile. I like the choice of binding, too. By the time I get to the binding, I just want to be done and sewing all the leftovers together seems like more work. I’ll have to remember how much it can add to quilts with lots of different colors. Another success!!

Confetti is the perfect name for your fun quilt! I’ve been waiting to see the finish, and I’m glad you’re already using it. It’s like a stash museum of fun fabrics and a challenging puzzle rolled into one quilt. If you make another one, I would be tempted to join you!
Confetti is the perfect name for this quilt. The bright binding scraps finish it off well, and the low volume backing pairs perfectly. It can be hard to make choices sometimes when we have so many others to make in a day, but it feels like this one finished up right at a time when a bit of cheer, brightness, and celebration would be welcomed. 🙂
Love your confetti quilt and I think it is just the perfect name. I don’t know why we fuss so and then finally make the decision we should have made days and months ago. Love the scrap binding too!

oh my goodness, I know all about trying to get pics of quilts in the right lighting, esp w/lights/whites! It is gorgeous and you’ve given it a perfect name. Hurrah for finishing a longtime project. I hope you’re snuggled under it this weekend with Wilbs and enjoying all those fun little blocks.

wow, another finish!! great … I love these black and white fabrics and you must have yards…. I can understand your thoughts of not using them for the back because they do such a good job on the front. Do I see a free motion idea for the SAHRR 2026 …. we can use the weekly given task into a base design like here… ??? mhhhh ??????

“Wandering Wife”? Yikes! Well perhaps it is about a wife on a nice solo roadtrip but she hasn’t really left her partner and kids lol,

Wow, what an amazing accomplishment! What strikes me today is the fun use of lime green and of the stripy borders on some blocks. I know if I looked at it another day, something else would jump out and inspire me. I love it!
