If you’ve followed me long enough, you know I like gnomes. So when Vicki asked if I’d test Gnome in the Forest for her, I said yes!
If you’ve followed Vicki of Vicki’s Crafts & Quilting long enough, you know she comes out with some very cute designs, and Gnome in the Forest is another one you’ll want in your pattern stash! More about how you can get your own at the end of this post.
Here’s my version:

Isn’t he just the cutest little gnome, with a pink nose? I had just the right fabric for the hat, and I couldn’t resist using this fabric for the backing:

I used a scrap piece of white batting for his beard, but minky, or cuddle cloth, or sherpa would be fun, too!

Because this was a test pattern and I wanted to finish it quickly, I opted for using a serpentine stitch to quilt the little mini. It was a little experiment to see how I liked it. I’m not really in love with the quilting, but I do love the mini. Next time, I’ll practice some free motion and have a little fun. You can also see that I used a simple zig zag to stitch around the appliqué pieces, which is quick and easy.
Vicki released this pattern just in time for you to get a head start on your Christmas sewing. This pattern can be done in an afternoon, it’s that quick!
You can get all the information on the pattern and the link to buy your own over at Vicki’s site – just click right here. (There’s a promo code for you at her site until October 8th, so don’t wait to get yours!)
Thanks, Vicki, for letting me test this fun pattern for you!
Wendy

What a cute Christmas mini, and the back is perfect for you with gnomes and dala horses!
An adorable gnome, and the backing is perfect.
That gnome is really cute! I like the borders and trees too and can’t get over that perfect backing. And it’s Wilbs approved. 😀
Very cute. I like the fabrics too.
So cute! And… there’s a little yella’ fluff friend surveying the new project… of course!
Of course Wilbs had to get in there are check it out!! One gal who purchased the pattern says she is going to try using long fur for the beard. I hope to see a photo when she is done. Thank you bunches for testing it for me girlfriend, you did an awesome job!
Adorable! God Jul!
What a fun test quilt, Wendy! Best of luck with the release of Vicki’s latest pattern.
That is the cutest Christmas Mini! So cute! Hugs –
This turned out so cute! I love the backing you used and great ideas for beard fabric.
You had the perfect fabrics on hand for this sweet mini!
It’s an adorable pattern and I love the fabrics you’ve chosen (backing is perfect!). I like the serpentine stitch for quilting! I have a feeling Wilbs’ favorite part is the batting beard–he’s checking it out, thinking it should be nice and warm for a nap…
Your gnome is so cute, Wendy! You definitely did have the perfect fabric for his hat and the backing, too. I love your version of Gnome in the Forest – I bet Vicki does, too!
So cute…and Wilbs gives it a paws up too!
I love it! The scrap of batting is fun for the beard. Looks like Wilbur is checking out whether you are bring a friend or a foe into his life…cracks me up!
Too cute!
Wendy your version of Vicki’s fun little quilt is perfect (the beard, the backing, the quilting and your cute fabrics). It definitely is Wilbs approved 😉
Great pattern and perfect holiday mini. I like when holiday pieces are a bit neutral. This could stay up before and after Christmas for sure.
Such a wonderful little wallhanging. I’ve used several of Vicki’s patterns after seeing them made up by you. I will probably add this to the library, too. And Wilbs makes a good judge.
Love the batting beard!!! And you’re backing!!! Such a cute design!!!
Very cute pattern. I too love those gnome holiday runners/toppers.
