I’m excited to share my SAHRR Center Block with you! Today is the kick off of the 2026 Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR). This is our sixth year of sewing our SAHRR quilts, and we are looking forward to seeing another round of beautiful, creative quilts. If you already know you are sewing along with us, we’re so glad! Today each of the leaders will be sharing their SAHRR center block. I think you’ll find a variety of blocks, which makes it so much fun to watch each quilt progress. I can’t wait – I don’t know what blocks my co-leaders have chosen, so I’m excited to see!
Once you’ve stopped at our blogs to see our SAHRR center blocks, you have one week to choose your center block. You can be as creative as you like. It can be a traditional block, an improv block, a panel, whatever. Here’s a peek at three quilts on my blog from last year’s SAHRR – my quilt and two other quilts from Katherine and Eva. Look at the variety in just those three. So have some fun coming up with your own block!
My SAHRR center block this year is a little different than previous years. I’ve decided to challenge myself a little. Can you tell how?
Did you take note of the size of my block in relation to the rotary cutter? Yes, that little block is 8 inches unfinished. It’s also a bit improv, so I’m going to have some fun adding borders. I do not have a plan, I like to wing it, so we’ll see how this goes.
One of the challenges with my SAHRR center block will be choosing colors for each border. I tend to think I need to stick with the colors of the center block, so I’m going to try to mix it up a bit. It is a messy process! My cutting table has bits of fabric everywhere, but I am excited to see if I can use my scraps instead of yardage for each border.

You picked a very bold and bright center. It shouldn’t be too hard to pick fabrics that work with those in the center without duplicating them. Looking forward to seeing your rounds this year.

I am in to do this. Your center block will test your creativity, use ofcolors, and scraps for sure. The other hosts have really interesting center blocks. I can’t wait for each week to see how everyone develops theirs.
For me, I am thinking of using a portion of a pre printed panel and fabrics on hand. Like you, I am hoping to use up stashed fabrics and scraps.
