Wayward Transparency Finish

Wayward Transparency is finished, and I’m happy to share it with you today.

Wayward Transparency Finish - My Wayward Transparency Quilt, named Solar Flare, from a quilt along hosted by Quilting Jetgirl - piecefulthoughts.com

I named my quilt Solar Flare, because the colors in the quilt make me think of that phenomena.

I made this quilt for the Wayward Transparency Quilt Along hosted by Quilting Jetgirl last winter. The quilt finished at 49″ x 49″ square. The colors in the quilt are Kona solids – Chinese Red, Flame Orange and Orange.

I brought the quilt to Connie and we put our heads together to come up with a quilt design. It had to have a sun with rays, right? So I left Connie with that idea and let her run with it. She didn’t disappoint!

She started with a quilted center.

Then she added a few little starbursts, for fun. That was a fun surprise!

Here’s another, that’s a little easier to see.

There are rays shooting out of the center of the quilt.

The backing fabric was a serendipitous find while on a road trip. I didn’t have any of the fabric from the top with me, but I knew it would match. It reminds me of the hot, bubbling look of those solar flares.

It looks pretty good I think. The binding is Kona Chinese Red.

Ok, one more photo, an attempted glam shot with my poor weathered basket.

And that’s the last of my finishes for now. Too bad my UFO stack doesn’t look a little lower!

  1. Wendy,
This is just beautiful! I think the name “Solar Flare” is perfect with the bright, bold colors! Please tell Connie she did a great job on the quilting. UFOs will always be around, won’t they?

  3. Wendy it is beautiful. The first thing I thought of when I saw the picture was fire. Great quilting too.

  4. I almost need my sunglasses! It contrasts nicely with the Gray sky out my window☺ another great finish.

  5. What a perfect name for this quilt! It’s a beautiful combination of colors and the quilting is quite perfect!

  6. perfect name for this quilt – such bright colors and it looks like it had been a very easy quilt to make

  7. Hi Wendy! Solar Flare is the perfect name for this quilt! The fabrics and colors you picked are just great, and that backing! I guess it was serendipitous when you found that without a piece of the fabrics with you, as it sure does match well. I think you achieved the goal of transparency very well, and selecting the fabrics is the key to its success. Great job! Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. I love Solar Flare and the quilting you had done it! I am trying to come up with an inspiration for a small project I have – but its almost too small to try anything too exotic. She really did a terrific job – but you did an awesome job with your fabric choices. Does it have a home?

  9. This quilt is hot hot hot!! I love your Solar Flare version of Wayward. The quilting looks wonderful. Congrats on a beautiful finish! Remind me how big this quilt is? It looks maybe lap size?

  10. Solar Flare – Perfect name for this quilt. Love the colors, backing and the quilting. You really pulled the details together so well. Like I have said, you are on fire (haha) with all of these finishes lately!

  11. The choice of fabrics was spot-on. The name is just perfect. As far as my eyes are concerned, well, the corneas are scorched :-p
