Block Making Part 3 is the last of my block making posts. Today I’m going to catch you up on my progress with the 2025 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen. This is a free block of the month from Jen. The block featured each month is a free download for the month, then available for a nominal fee after that. Each year, Jen chooses a source of inspiration for her color challenge, and this year she has chosen the amazing world of frogs. I’m a little behind in posting my blocks. You can read my last monthly color challenge post to see where I left off back in April. Here is my current army of frogs, starting with January in the upper lefthand corner of the photo.
I am following along with Jen’s suggested colors for the blocks. Each month, I’m curious to see what frog is the inspiration. I’m learning about frogs I never knew existed. June’s frog is the Cope’s Grey frog, which can be found in north eastern and south eastern parts of South Dakota. I grew up in that region of South Dakota, and I never knew this frog existed. So my June block is a grey/blue solid with a light grey polka dot.
The other part of this Block Making 3 post is to share Eva’s monthly color challenge blocks. Eva has been quietly sewing along each month, but she is putting her own color spin on the blocks, and rather than using frogs as inspiration for her colors, she is using her frog fabric in some of the blocks. Eva collects frog fabric, so she is having fun bringing little snippets of frog fabrics here and there.
She took them out in her garden for a photo shoot, laying them on a piece of brown fabric that makes the blocks pop. Here’s a peek at the blocks a bit closer.
Various things inspired the colors of Eva’s blocks. January’s block reminds her of the colors in the Christmas tree. February’s block center is orange, to remind her of the orange trees in Spain in February (she recently took a trip to Spain). March’s little white and pink remind her of the flowers of spring. April’s block is a memory of skiing in April when there was snow on the mountains but green grass in the valley below. May’s block (bottom center) reminds her of flowers in yellow everywhere, and June is the joy of long summer nights and the bright colors of the flowers. If you look closely, you can you see the frog fabric?
And with that, I’ll bring this Block Making Part 3 post to a close. I’m still making the Granny blocks, and will soon begin to add some cute bear blocks into the mix. More on that in another post!

Your monthly challenge blocks look beautiful together! Eva’s blocks are very pretty, and how sweet she is making them with frog fabric. I like that she associates blocks with memories. Does Jen have a linky, either monthly or at the end of the year?
Ah, I am making these blocks too (only 2 behind) and Eva’s blocks reminded me I have a few frog fabrics in the stash I inherited from my mom. I’ll find them and see what I think about adding them in!

Well, that was serendipitous for a collector of frog fabric to be in a group doing projects based on different frogs! Fun!
First, thanks to Wendy for showing my frogs. It makes so much fun to be in contact and have inspiration. Same sewing taste makes it so easy. Love the colours Wendy uses for the blogs, here was no fabric on stash to follow „the rules“. The granies show in the other blog are a real squirrel project, omg!

Jen has picked some really interesting blocks this year, and I like the colors you’re using, Wendy! Fun to see Eva’s blocks, too. I particularly like the spools block. I had forgotten that I wanted to make some of those!
