I had some catching up to do this week. I didn’t have much to report last Tuesday, but I made some progress this past week. Here’s my list from two weeks ago:
- Sew the sashing strips between the Granny block – Done!
- Dig out that fish quilt (more on this later) – Done!
- Prep a backing for a quilt to go to Connie – Nope!
- Enjoy a sew day with Connie & Sally (yippee!) – Done and Fun!
Before I show you my progress, I want to say thank you for all the comments on The Bear Quilt. The shower was this weekend, and the quilt was a hit with both mom and guests. It is always good to hear that your quilt gets big smiles and ooh and aahs.
My sew day with Connie and Sally was lovely. We sat out on the patio of Connie’s home and worked on hand sewing while we visited. I managed to get half of a quilt bound (the quilt is fully done now, just waiting for photos). A sew day with friends always lifts my spirits, and sometimes I actually get something done!
The Oh Granny blocks are now a quilt top! I used Kona Shadow for the background fabric, which was the background fabric used for The Bear Quilt. I used 2-inch strips for the sashing between the blocks, then added 3-inch strips for the borders. Next is to decide on a backing. I hoped a piece of flannel yardage I had in my stash would work, but it is too small, so I’m going to ponder this a bit.
And just like that, the Sewcialites 3 blocks are done! I have 25 little 6-1/2 inch blocks, waiting to see what is suggested for the layout. There was no catching up needed for these, and they have been a very fun bunch of blocks to make. All of these are free downloads through The Fat Quarter Shop, so if you still want to download them, you should do it soon. I used my left over Songbook fabric from Fancy That Design House for these blocks. Did I use up all the fabric? No, but I did make a pretty good dent!
I’ve also kept up with A Quilting Life’s monthly blocks, so here are my January through August blocks. Since these blocks only come out once a month, there hasn’t been any catching up on these either, but I have enjoyed making them. I’m using some of my old reproduction fabrics and a little bit of Grunge (for the background).
So what’s up for this week?
- Finish binding the mini quilt
- Fish Quilt – maybe
- Prep quilt back(s)
- Something new, perhaps?
That should keep me busy! Speaking of busy, Wilbs was just plain worn out the other night, and thought this cushy pillow was the purrfect place for a snooze!
You can see the humans were lazing about as well! I had to stay put, who wants to disrupt a cute catnap like that?

What a great week. The granny blocks look fantastic with the gray. Quilting with friends always lifts my spirits too!!! So glad you are both my friends.
The granny square blocks look great with their gray background, Wendy! It really makes the fun colors of the blocks pop. I still love the Sewcialites blocks in that pretty fabric and the Christmas blocks, too. Fun projects, all of them!
Great choice of sashing for the grannies. All of your other blocks are so pretty and fun to look at.
I think it’s a known rule that you can’t disturb such a cozy cat! You had a productive few weeks. I’m so glad the bear quilt was such a success, the sew day sounds relaxing and fun, and your granny squares quilt top looks fantastic. I hope you can find the perfect backing for it.

All three quilts are lovely and each is very different from the next. Couldn’t begin to pick a favorite from the three!
For the first time in many months, I am working on a quilt! The NICU I volunteer for uses baby quilts over the warmers to make them look a bit cozier and then the family takes them home. They are running low on quilts so I decided to see about making a few. Don’t want those quilting skills to get too rusty!!
Wow you got a lot done! The sashing for the Grannies is perfect. Love the Sewcialites – it’ll be interesting to see their layout suggestions. Glad you were able to accommodate Wilbs for that much needed nap.

Two beautiful quilt tops. They are both gorgeous but, as you know, the Oh Granny one is an all time favourite of mine.

You did get a lot done and had a sewing day…how fabulous. I love when I get to sew with my friends. I am impressed that you kept up with all the blocks. I am busy sewing tiny paper pieced sections of a boat, and quite tired by it all! The Granny squares looks great. I really like the Sewcialites blocks and the fabric you used. And, the ones for A Quilting Life are fun, too. Each of these is different, and that is also fun to see!

This must’ve been one of those high humidity days you mentioned, Wendy…nothing for it but to sprawl in our lazy chairs, with one slipper on and the other off, and just try not to melt! I am pretty sure you got the short end of the stick in terms of staying cool! Ha, ha!
