Eva’s SAHRR Border 3

I’m sharing Eva’s SAHRR Border 3 with you today. Eva has been working quickly this week to get this border on her quilt, and then getting photos to me so I can post them (she does not have her own blog nor is she on social media). I think you will enjoy seeing what she has chosen for her animal border.

If you’ve been following Eva’s progress, you will remember that her quilt features a very cute elephant fabric. With Emily’s prompt for this week, Eva has chosen not to go with the obvious – elephants – but has chosen to go with Flying Geese.

For Eva’s SAHRR border 3, she has had fun playing with something ddifferent, along with discovering a new way to sew the flying geese where she used small leftover pieces of grey fabrics in many variations together with soft hints of pink and green. After adding the soft green coping border, then the flying geese border, she is hoping you will see that her goal was for the border to connect well with the previous rounds. She also added the colorful corner blocks to add accent to her border. I’m always amazed at what Eva comes up with, and her joy in exploring something fun and new.

Here is a quick visual on how she created the flying geese. Eva didn’t sent me any explanation for the construction, but I think you will see the process in the photos.

First sew the flying geese units.

Once they are constructed, lay them out in this order for sewing.

And stitch them together for your border.

I have yet to try this border myself (it’s on my list to try), but I do like the look of the alternating geese. It adds nice movement to the quilt.

Eva’s SAHRR border 3 works so well with her quilt, and I like the soft colors she has chosen. She says done is better than perfect this week, and don’t we all feel that way sometimes? Although her border may not be perfect (although it looks good to me), it sure is a pretty one!

    Thanks for posting Eva’s fun progress of her flying-flying geese! This is a wonderful variation of that traditional block.
    (And on a side note, KJ Hahn – Round 3 – Shoo fly, does not link up to her blog, but just shows the same image. Hope you can help. 🙂 )

    This is stitching up nicely, Eva! You might be pleased to know, your offset flying geese block border is a new design for me and I love it! This will be my new ‘go to’ in future quilt projects.
