I’ve been making some little stitch books. Just fun sewing for me, a bit like doodling with thread and bits of fabric. Ann Wood is hosting her 100 Day Stitch Book once again, and I’ve started some new pages. But before I show you those new pages, here is my first finished little stitch book from when I participated in her 100 Day Stitch Book a few years ago. I purposely didn’t finish my book within the 100 days, but chose to take my time and sew pages when I felt like it. I finally got 20 pages ready and the book constructed.
The pages for my little stitch books are 5″ x 7″ unfinished. The entire book is hand sewn using 12 wt threads in various colors. I used different fabrics for my pages, some denim, some cotton, some linen. Once the pages were sewn, Ann has a great tutorial on how to construct the book. Here is my first book. There are quite a few photos, so just a heads up!
Random bits, like part of a button placket from an old shirt, along with some little scraps made the cover.
Pages 1-6:
I especially enjoyed just stitching those long running stitches with various colors of thread. It was very soothing and relaxing!
Pages 7-12:
I didn’t think too long on how to layout the fabric scraps. I just went with what appealed to me and then played with the stitching.
Pages 13-20:
I’m quite pleased with myself for finishing this!. Now that I have that one finished, I’ve decided to stitch along with Ann once again. This time, I’m using linen pages (until I run out of the fabric) and making little nature scenes. Once again, I’m using leftover bits of fabric from other projects. You’ll even see some batting scraps! Here are my first 5 pages in order.
Can you see that little squirrel in the block on the right in the first row? That is a little tiny stamp made for me by my daughter. Of course I needed a squirrel in that tree, and her stamp was just the right size. The last block, bottom row on the right, is waiting to be stitched. By the time you read this post, it should be finished.
These little stitch books are fun to make and a little something different than my usual sewing. I enjoy taking a few minutes to come up with a scene for the page, and then enjoy adding threads.
I have sewn some of Ann’s other patterns, too. My favorite is Harry the Crow. He hangs around my quilt room with me, keeping an eye on Wilbs!

Wendy, you are a talented artist. Your projects run the gamut from modern to traditional and everything in between. These are just wonderful. I love the stitching texture – it makes me want to pull out some perle cotton.

The cool think about this book is that you can really tell that you had fun doing it.
