I have my February Monthly Color Challenge block to share with you today. The 2026 Monthly Color Challenge is a free block of the month challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen. Each month, Jen gives us a simple quilt block to make along with the colors to use for that block. The blocks are 12.5″ unfinished and sew up quite quickly.
For her fabric inspiration this year, Jen is taking us into the wonderful world of frogs, in all their glorious colors. February’s frog is the Northern Leopard Frog, a little frog common to many of us. I recall many summer nights while growing up in South Dakota, hearing these frogs as well as catching them.
Last month, Jen had us using some pretty olive-y greens for the first block. The dark green used in my January block is also used in my February Monthly Color Challenge My block.

I had just enough of that green print to use for this block, and the colors in that print definitely remind me of the blue-green colors in the little frogs.
The blocks are released on the first of each month, so you have plenty of time to get them sewn. The blocks are basic in design, easy for the beginner quilter and quick for those who have been sewing for some time. I enjoy using my fabric scraps for these blocks, and they use very little fabric.
We are only two blocks in, so if you are interested in joining us, you can find out more information and sign up right here. If you’re curious what colors we’ll be using for months to come, you can see the list at that link as well.
My February Monthly Color Challenge block is done, and now to wait for March. When the block is released, I’ll hop to it!

I know the leopard frog! I made a quilt of one. Cute block.
Love how the plaid works in this one. You always have thread to match…I think I need to see your thread collection! Did you get that whole aurifil collection!?? 😝. (I’ve been thinking of putting it on my Christmas list but there are colors I doubt I’d use.)
This is so striking. The stripes pop beautifully. Good thing you had enough fabric! Keep hopping
That is a gorgeous block! The greens/fabrics play well together. Jen’s monthly challenges are so interesting.
I really like the spin on the Ohio Star block; looks great!
nice greens! like the stripe
Well, I had never heard of the northern leopard frog, so I clicked on your link, and I think you nailed the colors, Wendy! Fun block!
You and the frog block are hopping right along! I love it.
It’s hard to use plaids in such small blocks, but you made it work out so well. Sometimes it’s easy to do greens!
Don’t you just love being a part of a challenge? It keeps us from getting stagnant and pushes us to go in directions we’d never have thought of.
