I have my Lyra finish to show you today. Years ago, when I was in school, one teacher told my mother, “Wendy could really go places if she just didn’t procrastinate so much.” Another teacher (or maybe the same one) said, “She works really well under pressure.” I have carried these two little thoughts all through my life. So you can imagine when I opened Sandra’s post on Tuesday to find that the Lyra linky was open until today, I was clearly reminded of those two statements. Haha. I really didn’t want to post the unfinished quilt top, as I have a tendency to do, so I decided I was going to get the quilt done.
We were gone Wednesday until mid-afternoon, but when I got home, I got to work. I had yet to choose a backing for this quilt, and I wasn’t sure if I had enough batting on hand. I was determined to make it happen!
Every single fabric used in this quilt is from my stash. This quilt could easily be called “Just Enough”. I had just enough fabric for the backing, a little over a yard and with the 44″ width, it was really just enough! The quilt finished at 41 inches.
I had just enough batting. I meant to take a photo for proof, but I got so involved in finishing I completely forgot. The batting on a couple of the sides was a scant 1/2″ past the quilt top – but I was going to make it work. And it did – phew! I kept the quilting simple, going with a vertical serpentine stitch spaced about 2 inches apart.
I didn’t want the quilting to be noticeable, so I used Aurifil 50wt Dove Gray (#2600) thread. It allows the quilt design to be the focal point, and I’m happy with that.
I went with the Grunge Faded Denim (used in the border) for the binding, and machine stitched it to the quilt. Even with that, I had just enough!
And you can see that Wilbs allowed “just enough” of himself to be seen in the photo, too. And with that, my Lyra finish was complete.
I’ve not done all of Sandra’s quilt alongs, and I’ve lost count of how many I have done, but I’ve enjoyed them all. Here are a few of my favorites. Your quilt looks quite pretty in the grass. I love the soft color choices. Gosh your sewing machine should be on strike due to how much you have accomplished in the last week. The improv quilt you posted pictures of is excellent. I too like type and have never seen that fabric with all the type on it or I would have some in my stash for sure. Happy creating.

It’s beautiful Wendy! I really like the effect of the allover quilting which I did on my third version. I love that you literally had just enough of everything, and yay for using up more of the stash. Just Enough is the way some quilts go! I love the colors and the peachy moon is just perfect. Wilbs is just adorable on the quilt…as he always is. It really seems to belong outside…perfect garden colors! Congrats on another beauty.
