Thanks for taking a moment to take a peek at this post today. I have just a few things to show you, and a little announcement to share that many of you have been waiting for. By the time you are reading this, I will be busy getting our home ready for family to arrive on the 24th. You may be busy with the same, so perhaps you are reading this after the holiday celebrating is done. Either way, thank you for stopping by!
I thought I’d share just two quick little projects I worked on before Christmas. I actually relaxed and enjoyed the Christmas projects I made this year, keeping them to a minimum, and keeping them simple. Many of the projects were hand sewing, which is so relaxing. You saw the Dala horses in my last post; I actually made another one this weekend, and might try to sneak in a few more.
Take a peek at this cute little fella. I was gifted this little kit by a quilting friend (thank you!). He was fun to stitch up, but was put on hold while I searched for buttons online. I didn’t really think I’d miss JoAnns, but it is difficult finding little tiny buttons when you can’t look at them. Next time around, I’ll check Michael’s first! Anyway – the little gnome is done now and happily hanging on my tree.
This little pattern is from Buttermilk Basin. He’s about 3 inches across and 5 inches from tip to toe. This was another quick and relaxing afternoon of hand stitching. He’s kinda cute, huh?
Take a peek at this last minute gift I needed to make. I made a little pillow using this quick FPP pattern from Thimbles and Needles. This pattern was part of the Winter Wonderland FPP QAL hosted by Quiet Play, which just finished up, but you can still get this pattern if you are interested.
This pattern from Thimbles and Needles is called the Tinsel Twirl Tree, and it is available in their shop. I added 1-1/2 inch borders to make this 10-inch pillow. You can’t see the quilting very well, but it is just straight lines with a few snowflakes added. I applied fusible fleece to the back of the quilt block before I quilted it. I also applied fusible fleece to my backing to give the pillow a bit more stability. I went with two shades of green for my pillow, but this would be a fun pattern to play around with and be more creative.

I’m glad you were able to slow down and savor the season, Wendy! The pillow looks like a wonderful gift (great quilting!), the gnome is a fabulous ornament on your tree, Wilbur is certainly the gift that keeps giving. 🙂 I haven’t hear if Project Quilting is going to continue next year; if not, I may have to join the SAHRR!
I love the little woolen gnome. I plan to join in with you on the SAHRR. It’s an opportunity to use up existing fabric in an in expected way. In Albuquerque it is going to be T-shirt and shorts kind of Christmas this year. I hope you and your family have a lovely week without too much cold temps.

Such a cute little gnome. I know what you mean about missing JoAnn’s for those little buttons and the like. The pillow is darling and I’m glad to see the pattern made up. I spy your tree quilt behind the tree. I love it. And as for Wilbs, he is truly part of the family. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I was going to say what is a stay at home round robin but I see you have a link to Gail so I will take a look. I love all your hand made ornaments – those horses are the best I really love those.
I didn’t go into our JoAnn’s often, but I do hate seeing the empty building. Sometimes they were the only place that had just the right thing for a sewing project. I love the Christmas tree pillow. It’s so interesting how those green strips trick your eye into imagining a tree. And, finally… stay out of the tree, Wilbs! (Our Buff goes under the tree and behind the presents so he can be “in the room” without being “catch-able” by the little ones!)

Both projects are really cute, but I really like that gnome. I wasn’t going to do the SAHRR this year, it’s a lot of stitching for me. But after looking at what a few quilters did last year, I’ve come up with an option that I think will work for me. So I’m on board. Have a very Merry Christmas.

The gnome is adorable, checked the webpage … and happy I can’t shop overseas easily … so many nice little projects…. you did so well. Have fun some more days with this wonderful tree. Hope you have nice days and enjoy food and family. So nice to see the information about the SAHRR 2026.
Checked over the day my planned project but I think I can’t get the basic fabric colors quickly .. it’s always a hunt here. We will see.
