I have two quick little finishes to show you today, but I’m also excited to show of my new website! There’s been a bit of work going on in the background at Pieceful Thoughts, and I hope you like what you see. Huge thanks to Loren at Site Mavericks for all the help on the new look!
Last weekend we spent some time up north, showing off Duluth and its surrounding areas with my cousin, Deb and her husband, Bob. I’ll show you some photos of that trip in another post. It was good to spend time together and catch up a bit. The weather was cool and a little rainy, but we still managed to get out and about.
Returning home, I’ve just been working on small projects, so these two little finishes today were fast and simple. The first is a little pillow that I created, inspired by a pattern I have in my stash.

This little pillow measures 8 inches by 10 inches. Its current home is cozied up on a chair at our church, where it adds a bit of fall decor. Once the pieces were fused to the background, I added fusible fleece to stabilize the block, then did some quick raw edge applique. A quick envelope back finished the project. I also made the pillow insert, stuffing it with leftover bits of poly batting. It took me an afternoon from start to finish.
Recently Ann Wood had a sale, and one of her items was a pattern for Stitched Vessels – little fabric bowls. I couldn’t resist giving it a try! I have made a few of her patterns, my favorite being Harry the Crow. Ann’s patterns are mostly hand sewn, and I find them very relaxing. The little bowl pattern is very unique, and it went together like a charm. It’s a fun way to use bits and scraps of fabrics.
My little bowl is about 2-1/2 inches tall and about 2-1/2 inches in diameter at the top. The wabi sabi stitching makes each bowl uniquely shaped and pieced. Bowls can be made in any size you like, and both the outer bowl and lining are made together. There is no stitching of outer and inner bowls together. Ann shares a unique trick for stitching the bowl all one piece. I had so much fun using scraps and various threads. I’ll definitely make more. One thing I’ll remember for the next bowl? My thimble! Stitching through the denim in this bowl was a little tough, but I didn’t want to stop and go get my thimble – haha. Lesson learned!
Here’s a peek at the lining, made from my pink scraps. The bowl is reversible, so if I’m in the mood for the pink side, I just flip the bowl inside out. This little bowl will sit by my chair as a thread catcher when I’m hand sewing. Don’t be surprised if you see a few more bowls show up in a later post. I’m already thinking about my next one!

Those are the two big projects. There are a few other little projects, of course, that add in a little fun when I’m weary of stitching the FPP units.

Wait… I feel like a little tiny part of ME is in this new blog post look… I don’t have a photographic memory, but I have a pretty good memory for photographs… Whose little whisp of gray hair is just peeking on the edge of the circle frame beside your gorgeous face in your profile pic!!!!!
I love your new look! So bright and light and inviting. I love your pretty new profile pic too – you are a person whose eyes disappear while smiling – the very best kind of smile IMO. I like the categories too – do your posts automatically go into one after you post? Have you just not had time to create the Wilbs category? 😉

I can comment today! I love the wool project – reminds time to get out my Halloween pillows….Percy loved to “go after them”…must have been the wool smell. That little bucket is adorable, I will have to look up her patterns. And, your website design is lovely…a nice fresh approach.
