It’s Tuesday, and I have a little sewing progress to share with you. I haven’t been much in the mood for sewing lately, and I think a lot of it is due to the heat and humidity we’ve had. Wilbs and I have mainly been feeling a bit like this.
Meanwhile, the birds and squirrels have been very active at the feeders, although on the hot days the squirrels give up on the bird seed and just sploot on the railing. I put out a bowl of water for them, and they seem to be grateful for that. Anyway, back to sewing.
My tasks for the week were to clean my machine (done!), sew the next Sewcialites block (done!), bind the bear quilt (done!) and start something new (nope!).
I didn’t bother to take a photo of my nice clean machine with new needle, etc. I figure most of you know how that looks, and how much better it feels (and sounds).
I did get Block 22 of the Sewcialites 3 sew along finished. It was a quick little 6-1/2″ (unfinished) block.
I’m keeping up with these blocks well, the pace is really nice and it helps when the blocks are simple and quick.
And not only did I get the bear quilt completely bound and finished, I got the binding on a second quilt that’s been waiting for weeks. I’ll show you both quilts soon. I will hand off the bear quilt to my daughter this weekend, so I need to snap some photos before then.
This week I’m hoping for more than a little sewing. I have plenty of WIPs I could work on, and I’m itching to start something new but haven’t settled on what yet. Here’s my list for this week:
- Sew the sashing strips between the Granny blocks
- Dig out that fish quilt (more on this later)
- Prep a backing for a quilt to go to Connie
- Enjoy a sew day with Connie & Sally (yippee!)

For someone who didn’t do much sewing this week, you got a lot done! Methinks it’s the “start something new” that is irking you.
I am not feeling the heat (in both senses of the word) and have not done much sewing at all.
WILBS picture perfectly describes what is happening in our home. Sewing time has been abandoned. Stay cool and keep those little squirrels water bowl filled. I hope we see that bear quillt. Albuquerque has bears looking for food coming down into the city. Drought conditions have left them hunger and thirsty, searching away from their higher mountain habitat.
I’ve felt a bit like Wilbur lately, too – it’s been so darn hot! But binding two quilts is a great accomplishment – looking forward to seeing them. Good luck with your list this week, Wendy!
So that’s what it’s called? The squirrel sploot? LOL They’re pests but they’re still cute and funny! Still lovin’ your sewcialities fabrics. Nice job on the block; I don’t usually inspect other people’s points (why does that sound not-socially-acceptable??) in detail (I’m no quilt cop) but as I was inspecting the fabrics I did realize the points are all perfect. Nice job there! Give Wilbs a snuggle for me. I’m feeling the pull to get another cat pretty strongly these days…but I’m sure I’ll wait at least until next year. I just miss all the cat things, ya know?
Love the new Sewcialites block. I do like that they have been pretty easy. I still haven’t made one, but I ‘m collecting! LOL I look forward to seeing your Granny squares sewn together. They are so bright and cheerful. Have fun this week. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
That photo of Wilbs is exactly how I feel on those hot humid days. Thankfully we got a couple cool days in a row and I could turn the iron on and make some progress. I love the orange and green combination in your block and cute prints too. It makes me want to start sorting my scrap bin.
Wibs certainly has the right attitude for dealing with hot and humid days! I too look forward to sew days with friends. I hope you have fun AND that you make progress!
Looks like you got a *lot* done. I understand about the heat, though. We’re dealing with bad air here from the wildfires, but it’s also going to et hot today. Love that picture of Wilbur.

Block #22 sure looks bigger than 6.5″, love that light background fabric. Just got in from getting lettuce in the garden, and 3 cuc’s-it’s not to bad outside today.
I totally forgot about my Socialite’s quilt – I’m so far behind on it now and not even interested in it anymore. I lost interest in my color selection and not sure what I will do about it now. I think Wilbur is so cute – must be getting old
I really like that block – the fabrics especially! I think you secretly get up in the coolness of the night and work like crazy because it seems to me you’ve done a lot. 😉
I can totally relate to Whilbs, its way to hot to be excited about anything outside. Congrats on all the progress. Even if you didn’t feel motivated you still made really good progress. Good luck with this week’s to do list.
