Happy Monday, all! I am excited to show you Mini Finish 1 today. I’ve been gone a few days these past few weeks, so I need to catch you up on this little quilt. In my last progress post, I teased you with these little blocks.
These 16 little blocks were such fun to stitch up. They are blocks from the Shoofly Sampler pattern in the book, Quirky Little Quilts from Temecula Quilt Company. The Shoofly Sampler pattern is actually the cover quilt on the book, and I’ve wanted to make it for quite awhile. Since I had my reproduction scrap bin out, it was time to get this little mini done.
My fabric choices are pretty close to the pattern in the book, not because I wanted to copy it, but because I loved the color choices. I had fun picking out the fabrics and stitching up the little blocks. The pattern was well done, and I was surprised at how quickly those 16 blocks were done!
I do want to give a little shout out to one of my local quilt shops, Reproduction Fabrics. Most of the fabrics in this little quilt came from Margo’s shop. If you love reproduction fabrics and textile history, I hope you check out her website, her Etsy shop, and follow her on IG (@margo_krager).
Okay, back to the little mini . . .
And then it was time to quilt. I decided to do crosshatching on the diagonal with my AcuFeed foot, spacing the lines about 3/4″ apart. I used Aurifil 50 wt thread in Pewter (#4651), which worked well with both the blue background and the blocks. Here’s a photo showing the backing and binding.
This little quilt finishes at 21-1/2″ square. Mini Finish 1 was such an enjoyable project, I actually made a second one, which I will show you soon. It has a bit of a different look from this one, but I think you’ll like it.

I love your mini! I follow the blog of Temecula Quilt Company and I enjoy reading about the mini quilts featured. A year or two ago there were a group of quilters that completed a mini quilt once a month. I loved checking around to see each member’s quilt for the month. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Your mini-finish is so perfect. I love the colors, too, and can see why you kept to the pattern suggestions. Nice quilting too, which takes time but does get kind of meditative as you make the grid!

I love the varied look of each little block. There’s a lovely downhome feel of being at Grandma’s house and pointing out patches, “That was from my dress!” and “This one was from yours!”
Gosh that’s a pretty quilt! I LOVE repro fabrics, and the background you chose just makes them pop. I just had a look at the book, and you did good replicating the fabrics. The backing is perfect for it. Is it a quilt for Wilbs? Or will you hang it, or put it on a table?
I would make that quilt in a heartbeat if the blocks weren’t so TINY – lol – do you hear me screaming? 😀 Are they 4 inch? I made Lori Holt’s 6 inch Vintage Farm Girl blocks a few years ago and they almost did me in! But hey, I just put the Temecula book on my wishlist 🙂
Generally I’m not drawn to reproduction fabrics which is probably no surprise to you given how much I use bright and saturated fabrics, but I absolutely love this mini. It is utterly charming!
