I have my Mini Finish 2 to show you today. This is the second mini using the Shoofly Sampler pattern from the book, Quirky Little Quilts By Temecula Quilt Company. Here is Mini Finish 1 again, to jog your memory.
You can read the details of that mini in this post. Once I had finished that little mini, I had an idea to make a second one, and Mini Finish 2 is now finished!
I wonder what this would look like in solid fabrics? That was my idea behind Mini Finish 2. So I pulled out my solid scraps. I kept the background fabric blue, but used Kona Cadet, s solid blue rather than a print. All the blocks were constructed using my solid scraps. And here’s the finished quilt on my design wall.
It is the same pattern, but it looks a bit different, right? It was so much fun to see how it would look. For the quilting, I used the Serpentine stitch on my machine, but I stretched it out as far as I could, so it looked like gentle waves. The quilting is spaced an inch apart.
As I was quilting it, I realized the wavy quilting adds to the nautical vibe of the quilt. It makes me think of those colorful flags you see on some boats.
Like the other mini, this finishes at 21.5 inches square. I got so many comments on the little bowls in my last post, I thought I should include them with this mini, too, so here you go! (I got those bowls years ago at Pier 1 – anyone else miss that store?).
The backing fabric is a piece of Tula Pink fabric I’ve had on my shelf for awhile. It worked really well with this little mini, and I had just enough.

Mini Finish 2 isn’t quite as bright as this photo makes it look. The first photo of this mini in this post shows the quilt colors the best.
I enjoyed making both of these quilts. My daughter has laid claim to Mini Finish 2, so it will be going home with her.

Oh that’s pretty! It’s amazing how different a quilt can look in solids vs prints. It does remind me of nautical flags! Do you have a Janome? If so, what settings do you use for that serpentine stitch? Diann uses that stitch too, and I just love it. We will have The Littles for 3 nights starting tonight, so I’m still trying to figure out a simple project to sew. They love using the sewing machine!

What a fun challenge to yourself, with amazing results, Wendy! The sampler in all solids has a much more modern look, while the original is more vintage or even antique. And, yes, nautical, too! I like them both. Lucky daughter!
I prefer the first! Always interesting to see the differences fabric choices make in the finish. Both are greatly enhanced by your choice of machine stitching, too. Yay for another scrappy finish & successful experiments!

Nice job, the second one reminded me of Amish style a bit.
Both quilts are beautiful but I love bright colors best. So mini#2 is my favorite. It is great to see them together. Alike but different. You did a great job. How big are those finished squares? It must have been fun to sort through the scraps and find just the right color for each block.
I like that two different looks yet so much alike.

I am not surprised your daughter claimed the second mini quilt. It is beautiful, as is its companion. They have such charm and panache.
