Oh Granny Update

It’s been a little bit, so I thought I’d share my latest Oh Granny update for the Oh! Granny quilt along hosted by Elizabeth. You can see my first eight blocks in this post. I have enjoyed making these blocks, so let me show you my progress.

I’m still using colors from one block to another. In the blocks above, the color of the four blocks in the center of the block on the left becomes the center block of the block on the right. The outer color of the block on the left becomes the four squares in the center of the block on the right. I repeat this method with each block. Hope that makes sense. It makes it easier for me to choose colors in each block.

My blocks square up approximately 7 inches.

Sometimes I think a color combination is not going to work, and then I lay out the block, and find I’m quite happy with it. .

Some of them are bold and some of them are a bit quieter.

I have twenty Oh Granny blocks finished. There are 30 blocks for the quilt along. I will make ten more blocks to complete the thirty, and then decide if I want to keep going. I’m not tired of them yet, so we will see.

Here’s a group photo for my Oh Granny update. They are a happy group!

Happy Wednesday, all! I hope you enjoyed my little Oh Granny Update1 I hope you are sewing something fun, too!

Wendy

  1. Oh my gosh…I *love* all that color. So cute. Maybe you’ve already mentioned this. I can’t remember. I’m old. The blocks make me think of crocheted “granny squares.” Is that the inspiration for the name? And the blocks?

  2. Oh these are so pretty. Your method of color continuity is genius! I don’t get tired of them either – they are fun to make.

  3. Oh Granny! = Oh Happy Quilt! Love how this is turning out, especially with regards to your color choice method. I forget, I’m old, (like Barbara S said): did you think up that method?

  4. That is definitely one happy group of Grannies, Wendy! I love all the color and how you are carrying the color over to the next block. Great job. I still haven’t made anymore, but I might make some of the smaller ones. We’ll see! I’ve squirreled off to another project at the moment! LOL Yours make me wish I had a stash of pretty bright solid fabrics!

  5. Those blocks are so pretty in their bright solid colors, Wendy! You have a wonderful selection of fabrics to choose from for this project. Seeing the collection all together gave me a “Wow!” This does look like a really fun project to work on!

  6. You are absolutely correct when saying these are a happy group of blocks. Somewhat controlling the color by moving the color combination from one block to another is so smart. Really nice work here Wendy!

  7. Oh look at ’em all! I agree with the other commenters–they’re so happy! So if you keep going, will it be just a bigger quilt or maybe for matching pillows, runner…?

  8. Ellie Very interesting about using one color of previous block in the next one. Helps with picking colors and somewhat coordinating them,

  9. Such a clever and artistic way to help your block to grow as well as to “talk” to each other, unifying this very colorful quilt. I stand in awe. I’m also at about 20-ish and will stop at 30, as that will be a good size for our home. I have to say, I am always finding ways to put fabrics together to create these blocks, and will miss this project when it is completed!

  10. Sorry, I missed to comment. These are so lovely. The solids are now on your table and so these blocks as well as the bears are adorable.
We needto sew things that work for us and make fun. And the result is just great. Grannies and as well makrame work, all these things from the 70 come back now… and some want to sell this as something absolutly new! Ok, depends on your age…. Than you never see it before.
    Happy week with happy blocks
