Well, here we are at Wednesday and it’s time to share my SAHRR Border 3. We are now halfway through our 2026 Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR) and it’s been so fun to see all the creative ways each border prompt is used.

Emily is our host for the week, and she has a fun prompt for us to consider. She is asking us to take inspiration from the animal kingdom! Any animal counts, from the smallest ant to the biggest of sharks. There are lots of ways to interpret Animal Kingdom. You can use a quilt block named after an animal (Bear Paw, Monkey Wrench, Snail’s Trail, Birds in the Air, Shoo Fly, Puss in the Corner, etc.), you can use an applique of an animal, you can piece a block that looks like an animal, or you can use fabric that contains an animal.
Well, you know I’m working small this year, and if you haven’t seen my quilt from last week you can see it here. So I had to think a bit to come up with something I could use for 2-inch blocks. Here’s what I came up with.
My SAHRR Border 3 animal block is called Goose in the Corner (no, I didn’t make that up!). From my quick search of this block, the goose is supposed to “float” in the corner, but I just did my own thing. I enjoyed making these quick little blocks, and once again, tried to use a few new fabrics. There’s even a couple of renegade blocks in there. Do you see them? I just added them for fun since they were hanging out on my design wall.

I made a Goose in the Cabin once, which is essentially a goose in the corner added to a log cabin block. Yours works perfectly with your little quilt.

These blocks are so great – goose in the corner – who knew! I love your improv quilt so much and to watch this small piece grow each week in color and ideas is so much fun. Love the renegade blocks that just couldn’t help themselves but jump in – improv gone rogue.
This week I saw the first birds coming back from Spain! Crazy… to cold here… and they fly over the alps… brrrr… so your goooses have it better in a nest of sunny colors. Never know that the name for that is goose in a corner! This is on my list for scrap sewing… how wonderful, adorable, stunning, extraordinary, outstanding… amazing… its so perfect this free motion.
