It’s Wednesday and time to reveal my SAHRR Border 5 for the 2026 Stay at Home Round Robin. Thank you to all of you who linked up on my post last week, showing off your curved borders. SAHRR Border 5! We are almost done with our quilts! Has it gone by fast for you too, or is it just me? I hope you have had as much fun as I have had as you create your quilt. Let’s take a look at the schedule once again.

Gail is our host this week and has chosen “two colors” for our SAHRR Border 5. With my little quilt in a riot of color. you can imagine I had to ponder that a bit. I had lots of colors to choose from, obviously, but which two? And how to I keep the color lively using only two colors? And what block would work best?
I knew what block I wanted to use. Back in my early days of blogging, I posted this little mini. That little quilt was the beginning of my improv quilt journey. I was new to blogging and didn’t know to give credit to the tutorial I used for the cross cut blocks, but I can tell you that it was Deb Jeske of A Quilter’s Table. She still has her tutorial for those blocks on her site, and you can find it here.
The decision on what two colors to use was pretty simple, I have a lot of yellow and blue scraps. Plus I felt that that color combination would work well with the rest of the quilt. I started out using just light blue and the yellow that I use frequently in each border, which is Kona Corn Yellow. I made up a few blocks, alternating yellow with blue cross cuts and blue with yellow cross cuts. I quickly saw that the blue was too light, so I decided to stick to using only the Kona Corn Yellow fabric but using a variety of blue scraps. It worked!
These blocks are so much fun to make, I’m tempted to drop everything and make another cross cut quilt. Once again, the blocks are 2 inches unfinished, so they finish at 1.5 inches. With SAHRR border 5, my quilt is now 22 inches square.

Oh my gosh…I totally love this. There is so much cheerful movement. Wonderful job, Wendy.
The choice of blue and yellow really works in that last border. Looking at what you’ve made so far, the yellow holds the quilt together on a visual basis. Not the background, but the consistent color that keeps all the other colors from overwhelming the design. Very cool!
That’s a terrific addition to your SAHRR. It kind of “calms” the eye, but doesn’t stop the improv feeling. Excellent!!

Your wonky crosses are delightful! But now I’m worried my idea of each block being 2 colors (and each block using a different secondary color) might not work. I’m off to get all the details from Gail!

Your cross cut blocks in blue and yellow are perfect for this week’s prompt and for your design, Wendy! I made those for the double prompt week, and I think I need to make more of them for my quilt. But now I’m thinking about a block for “two colors” – always so fun for the quilting brain!

The shades of blue with the yellow kinda tones it down a tad bit. But I like the movement these blocks provide for this round.

Every border you make I think: well, that one is my favorite of yours. And here is another, and really this time it is certainly my favorite. I guess I just love your whole quilt, and how you’ve put it together; you really have a talent. (P.S. I love Deb Jeske! and she does have great ideas and great tutorials.)

What a delightful border! I’ve wanted to make a cross cut block quilt for awhile. I may have to make that happen sooner rather than later.

Oh wow – there is so much movement in that piece with that border. When I Looked at the image it looked like things were actually moving – awesome 🙂
Mixing the light and dark blues was a great decision. The border has an effect similar to black and white checkerboard in a sea of bright colors. It really works, whatever the reason. Different enough from the color rows, yet similar enough too.
